SE Student Spotlight – Tiffany Mayberry (SE ’22)

Tiffany Mayberry is featured Student Spotlight.

What influenced your decision to choose Software Engineering?

I came to Iowa State unsure of what  I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to do something in engineering but was open to options. I started to learn how to code on my own my first semester and liked how you could do pretty much anything. I guess I stuck with it.

Where is your “hometown”? Fun fact about home?

I’m from Ames. A fun fact that everyone should know is Ames has the best tap water. Hands down.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. In the long run, it probably doesn’t matter.” – Tiffany Mayberry (SE ’22)

What were you involved in at the university?

I’ve been involved in Dance Marathon. (https://dm.stuorg.iastate.edu/)

What’s your favorite part of student life? And why?

I enjoy finding new study spots hidden in different buildings. It makes studying slightly more interesting.

Who has had the biggest impact on you and why?

I would have to say my oldest sister Amanda. She has always pushed herself to exceed expectations in sports, school, and her career. She laid the groundwork for me to want to do the same.

Have you had an internship?  If so, when and where?

I interned at Skyworks Solutions in the Summer/Fall 2020 and Summer 2021 – Spring 2022. I’ve also been working at Ag Leader Technology here in Ames this past Summer and Fall.

If so, what role did you play?  What did you like most about your role?

At Skyworks, I was a part of a test automation project to decrease the setup time of different simulations. I enjoyed having a large say in design decisions. At Ag Leader, I’ve been working on their Displays team and have enjoyed how chill the team has been.

If you could give an incoming SE Program student advice, what would it be?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. In the long run, it probably doesn’t matter.

What are your plans after you graduate?

I’ve accepted a full-time position at Ag Leader.

What’s one random fun fact about yourself you’d be willing to share?

I’ve done the full week of RAGBRAI (https://ragbrai.com/) four times with my siblings. My first time was in 2016.
